Privacy Policy

Last updated 17 September 2026 · Ardent Labs

Ardent is a nutrition and lifting tracker. When you sign in, the diary lives in your account. You can opt to keep it only on this device instead. This policy explains what is stored where, and when. It is written for the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Who we are

Ardent is a Health & Fitness app from Ardent Labs, New South Wales, Australia. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Contact us via the Support page in the app. Signed in, meals and lifts are stored with your account unless you opt to keep them only on this device (More → Where your diary lives).

Account (default: cloud diary)

You can use Ardent without signing in — then the diary stays on this device. If you create an account (Google, X, or email and password), we store the email and name the provider shares, a session, and your diary (foods, sessions, body stats, photos you add, custom foods, settings) so it is not kept as a lasting copy on the phone. Signing out removes the working copy from this device; sign in again to load it. Delete the account in More → Account (type DELETE). That removes the cloud diary, session and login.

Store only on this device

In More you can turn off “Keep diary in the cloud”. The diary then lives on this iPhone. We keep the cloud copy for 30 days so you can reverse the choice. After 30 days the cloud copy is deleted. You can cancel any time during those 30 days by turning cloud storage back on. Other devices will not stay in sync while the diary is on-device only.

What may be on this device

Display settings, the legal acceptance, and (if you opted out of cloud storage, or have not signed in) food logs, exercises, biometrics, water, notes, custom foods, recipes, workouts, progress photos and fasting sessions. Clearing site data, deleting the app, or losing the phone without a backup or account deletes on-device data. Use More → Download backup for a file of your own.

Health and fitness information

The diary is health information. We treat it as sensitive. It is not sold, not used for advertising, behavioural advertising, data brokerage, or unrelated profiling. We do not require precise location.

Apple Health and wearables

Connecting Apple Health is optional. You can use nutrition, workouts, water and the rest ofArdent with no wearable and with no HealthKit permission. Ardent only requests HealthKit read types it has a use for (activity, workouts, heart and recovery, sleep, body measurements). iOS lets you grant or deny each type; Ardent cannot see a “denied” flag, so an empty category is shown as “No accessible data”, not as a refusal.

Authorised samples are stored in Ardent’s health store with the value, unit, time, device and source app so they can be de-duplicated and summarised. On this device they stay in the app’s local store. If you are signed in and the diary is in the cloud, the same canonical records (not every raw heart-rate beat forever) sync to your account so history follows you. You can remove the cloud copy from More → Connected Health. Revoking access in Apple Health stops new imports; it does not by itself delete what Ardent already stored — use Remove cloud copy and discard local preview/provider data for that.

Coach and insights read short derived summaries and personal baselines, not a firehose of raw samples. Wearable calorie estimates are never added automatically to your food target.

Camera, photos and barcode

The camera is used only when you tap Scan or Photo. Barcodes and meal photos are processed to identify food. Progress photos you add on Progress are part of the diary: in the cloud when you are signed in, or on this device if you opted out. We do not run a background camera or upload photos to Coach unless they are in a snapshot you choose to send.

Food catalog

The Australian databases (AUSNUT and supermarket products) ship with the app. Typing a search can also query a live catalog (Open Food Facts and similar public food data) so Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and barcode hits can appear. Those requests contain the search text or barcode, not your diary. Open Food Facts is a third party; their own policy applies to that request.

Coach (optional, you tap it)

Analyse my logs and Ask Grok to decide send a snapshot you choose — recent foods, sessions, RPE, set notes, body stats and the goal you typed — to xAI so Grok can write a plan. That call is user-initiated. We do not stream the diary in the background. xAI may process that snapshot outside Australia. xAI’s handling of prompts is described in xAI’s privacy policy. Do not tap Coach if you do not want that snapshot to leave the device (or your account).

Home Screen widgets (iPhone)

If you add an Ardent widget, a small snapshot of today’s numbers (calories, macros, water, session name, recovery scores, open problem titles) is written to an App Group on this iPhone so WidgetKit can draw it. That snapshot is not a second diary, is not uploaded, and is removed when you delete the app. Lock Screen widgets use iOS redaction so numbers hide when the phone is set to conceal private data. Problem details are not offered as Lock Screen widgets.

Quick Voice, Siri and Lock Screen controls

The Quick Voice control, Control Center buttons, Action Button, Shortcuts and “Hey Siri, log with Ardent” all send a spoken or tapped command into the same on-device parser. The diary write is the same as a tap in the app. iOS does not let a Lock Screen control run its own microphone; Apple’s Siri / App Intents collect the utterance. We do not store audio. The in-app Quick Voice page may use the microphone only while you hold the mic, to turn speech into a command on this device. Siri’s handling of voice is Apple’s, described in Apple’s privacy policy.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising networks or third-party analytics SDKs. We do not use an advertising identifier. We do not build a cross-app profile. An account is optional.

Retention

Cloud diaries are kept while the account exists, or for 30 days after you opt to store only on this device, then deleted. On-device data (signed out, or after you opt out) is kept until you delete it, restore a different backup, or remove the app. Optional Coach snapshots are held by xAI under xAI’s retention rules, not ours. Search queries to the live catalog are not stored by Ardent.

Children

Ardent is not directed at children under 13. Do not enter another person’s health information without authority.

Your choices

Delete individual foods, sessions or photos in the app. Clear a day. Discard an in-progress workout. Download or restore a JSON backup. Keep the diary in the cloud or only on this device (More). Remove the app to erase on-device data. Delete the account to erase the cloud copy. You can refuse Coach and live catalog search and still log food from the offline AUSNUT database.

Access and correction

Sign in to load, edit or delete your diary. If the diary is on this device only, edit it here or restore a backup. If you believe there is a privacy issue with the app itself, use Support.

Changes

If this policy changes in a material way, we will update the date above. Continued use after that date is acceptance of the revised policy.
